Every year more and more children, and even adults, drown in backyard swimming pools. In 2009, there were 103 serious water-related incidents in the Valley. 59 of them were children under the age of four, and 47 of which occurred in backyard swimming pools.

As of June 2, 2011, according to data from Maricopa County's Children's Safety Zone website, there have been 18 deaths, including 8 children, in 55 Water Related Incidents so far this year.
