Phoenix is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks, of the Western Division of the National League. The team’s first year of play was in 1998. The Diamondbacks have been Division Champions twice (2001 & 2007), and National League & World Champions once (2001).
Games are played at Chase Field, 401 E. Jefferson St. in downtown Phoenix, 25 miles from Goodyear via Interstate 10, which seats over 49,000 fans in air-conditioned comfort.

The Phoenix Suns just completed their 40th year in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NBA. In that time they have posted seventeen fifty-win seasons, and made eight trips to the Western Conference Finals
The Suns play their home games at the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix at 201 W. Jefferson St.

Since 1988, Arizona has been the home of the Cardinals franchise, first located in Chicago, then in St. Louis from 1960 to 1988. The team plays in the Western Division of the NFC.
The Cardinals play their home games at the University of Phoenix Stadium (seating 63,400) in Glendale.

Professional ice hockey in the Valley is represented by the Phoenix Coyotes. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League
The Coyotes were founded in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), joining the NHL in 1979 and moving to Phoenix in 1996. Home games are played in Glendale at the Jobing.com Arena.

The Phoenix Mercury began in 1997 as one of the original eight teams in the Women's National Basketball Association. The team won the National Championship in 2007.
The team is named after the closest planet to the Sun - a reflection of the partnership with NBS Suns. The Mercury also call the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix at 201 W. Jefferson St. their home.

The Arizona State University Sun Devils compete in NCAA programs in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Events are held at the main campus in Tempe, University Dr. between Mill St. and Rural Rd.

NASCAR Racing

Right next to Goodyear in Avondale, Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) is one of the premier NASCAR tracks in America. This one-mile oval hosts two NASCAR weekends each year which attract thousand of visitors to the Southwest Valley.

Thoroughbred racing is available in the Valley at Turf Paradise located in north Phoenix at 1501 W. Bell Rd. Their season runs approximately from October into May. The track can be reached by telephone at 602-942-1101
