School Resource Officers
School Resource Officers (SRO) provide law related education and life skills training to students, and serve as a source of information and support for teachers, administrators, and parents. Officers also focus on safety in and around the schools. They respond to complaints from both parents and school officials regarding speed enforcement in school zones and incidents occurring on school property.
SRO’s continue training throughout the year in order to stay on top of current issues and trends such as gang awareness, “raves,” bullying, cyberbullying and "popular" drug choices. Not only do officers attend training, but they also offer training for local Parent Teacher Association members and Gang/Drug Awareness classes for teachers and parents.
High school students may also want to check out the Teen Police Academy Training for students 14 to 18 years old.
Please feel free to contact the School Resource Officer close to you if you are interested in such training.
Goodyear Police Department in collaboration with our local school districts have established three new Police Substations for area officers to visit and/or work from. The schools have designated an office for officers to conduct meetings, complete paperwork, make phone calls and complete several other work related tasks.
They are located at:
- Mabel Padgett Elementary
- Centerra Mirage Elementary
- Westar Elementary
