Goodyear Names Paul Luizzi New Fire Chief Following Interim Stint
The City of Goodyear today announced that Interim Fire Chief Paul Luizzi has been named the City’s second fire chief, effective immediately. He succeeds Mark Gaillard, who retired earlier this year.
Luizzi, 43, has served as Goodyear’s Interim Fire Chief since April when he was asked to review and manage the Department’s response to the findings of an outside audit of the Fire Department.
Luizzi joined the Goodyear Fire Department in April 2007 as the Battalion Chief over Emergency Medical Services. Since then, he has served twice as Interim Fire Chief, twice as Deputy Fire Chief and once as Interim Deputy City Manager.
“Paul has done a masterful job of leading the Department over the last five months and has earned the opportunity to become Goodyear’s next Fire Chief,” said Brian Dalke, Goodyear City Manager.
Dalke praised Luizzi for his response to the CityGate audit and his ability to bring the Department together.
“The impact of the audit has been profound, serving as a rally point for the firefighters, and civilian support personnel all very proud of their department and eager to make improvements for the community they serve. Together, Paul and his team have embraced the report and made measurable and impressive progress since given the task this spring,” Dalke said.
“I am humbled by this opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of Goodyear and the men and women of the Department,” Luizzi said.
Luizzi has more than 24 years of fire and EMS experience, including 19 years spent working for public safety organizations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Luizzi will be paid an annual salary of $128,000
