Valley Metro seeks public input on route expansions, enhancements
Changes would expand and adjust frequency on two routes in Goodyear
The public can offer feedback in a variety of ways on proposed Valley Metro transit service changes that provide many enhancements that would begin on January 27, 2014 and would increase the frequency of one route in Goodyear and expand another in the city.
Service changes occur with Valley Metro as a way to build and refine an effective regional transit system that supports Valley communities, businesses and residents. Comments on the following changes or improvements are being requested between September 9 and October 11.
The proposed change to the Van Buren Route, known as Route 3, would be modified west of 75th Avenue in Phoenix and Avondale to provide a weekday frequency increase from every hour to every half hour. Routes run from about 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Another proposed change would include the McDowell Road/Avondale Boulevard Route, known as Route 17/17/A will be combined with service continuing to the Desert Sky Mall Transit Center in Phoenix. The weekday frequency will increase to 30 minutes west of the mall in Phoenix and in Avondale/Goodyear. The route will also be expanded about four miles west of McDowell Road at Litchfield Road to Pebblecreek Parkway in Goodyear.
Overall, the other proposed route changes throughout the Valley would be:
- Extend the route: Routes 7, 10, 12, 16, 17/17A, 43, 51, 56, 59, 61, 154, ZOOM
- Add trips: Routes 72, 81, 156
- Adjust the schedule: Routes 562, 563, light rail
- Modify the route: Routes 0, 7, 12, 16, 17, 19, 41, 45, 70, 72, 154, 511, 685
- Adjust frequency: Route 3, 17/17A, 29, 50
- Combine routes: Routes 17 and 17A
Valley Metro and City of Phoenix service changes occur as a way to build and refine an effective regional transit system that supports Valley communities, businesses and residents. Public input is requested on the following proposed service changes and enhancements scheduled to take effect January 27, 2014. All Valley Metro-operated service requires approval by the Valley Metro Board of Directors.
