Open House- Access to Care Program
The Access to Care Tax ordinance that will be presented to the Mayor and Council would authorize the City to impose a short-term assessment on area hospitals that would then be transferred to AHCCCS to fund new AHCCCS payments to eligible Goodyear hospitals to help cover uncompensated care costs for low income and uninsured patients.
The ordinance would prohibit hospitals subject to assessment from passing the cost onto patients or private third party payers liable to pay for care on the patient’s behalf.
The purpose of the fund would be to establish a funding source for the non-federal share of Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) payments to acute care hospitals within the City of Goodyear that provide significant amounts of uncompensated care to uninsured and low income patients. The fund would expand coverage through the AHCCCS system and promote access to health care for residents of the City of Goodyear.
To learn more about the Arizona Access to Care Program attend the open house on Thursday September, 19th from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the second-floor conference room of West Valley Hospital, 13677 West McDowell Road in Goodyear. Public parking is available in the hospital parking lot.
