Goodyear Councilmember Joanne Osborne Attends Harvard University’s Summer Program
August 15, 2011
- Education is one of Councilmember Joanne Osborne’s greatest passions. For that reason, the opportunity to attend the prestigious Harvard University this summer was a dream come true.
Councilmember Osborne applied to Harvard’s “Senior Executives in State and Local Government” program offered by the university’s Kennedy School of Government. To her delight, she was selected to join the 80 member class out of over 600 applicants. Along with Pinal County Sherriff Paul Babeu and Lake Havasu City Manager Charlie Cassens, Osborne was one of only three attendees from Arizona.
For three weeks in July, Osborne lived and studied on the iconic campus set in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The program structure offered a unique hands-on educational experience aimed at assisting public officials better serve their constituents.
The program provided Councilmember Osborne the opportunity to interact with an impressive list of lecturers and fellow attendees to gain a unique perspective on leadership, policy issues, and collaborative governance, decision-making and citizen-government relations.
According to Councilmember Osborne, her participation in the program was invaluable to her growth as a public servant, “To be able to attend Harvard University and learn from some of the brightest minds in public policy was the opportunity of a lifetime. I look forward to utilizing the skills and strategies I have learned to better serve the great City of Goodyear and the State I love.”
Harvard’s University Program “Senior Executives in State and Local Government” provides a balance of traditional and hands-on learning experiences helping seasoned public officials meet the changing needs of their constituents and community. This program provides the opportunity to interact with Harvard’s lecturers and fellow public executives.
