UPDATE: Goodyear Police Apprehend Suspect in “Door-Kick” Burglaries

GOODYEAR, Ariz. –On Friday, May 31, 2013, at approx. 11:30am, the Goodyear Police pursued a green Dodge Dakota truck fitting the vehicle and suspect description in a string of over 12 forced-entry home burglaries in Goodyear since January. The suspect was known to display a firearm during these crimes. A collaborative effort ensued with Goodyear Police, the Goodyear K9 unit, DPS, Phoenix Police, MCSO and the U.S. Marshal’s Office. On Friday the pursuit ended with the suspect bailing out of the vehicle on foot and fleeing the scene near 16th Street and Portland in Phoenix. Authorities searched late into the night, Thomas Carrasco, the registered owner of the vehicle, was located, questioned and released pending further investigation. The main suspect, 24 year old, Agustin Bobby Ortega, remained at large.
 
UPDATE: At approx. 10a.m. this morning, the U.S. Marshal’s Office located the main suspect, Ortega, barricaded in a home in the 1500 block of E. Fillmore, in Phoenix. Goodyear K9 and Criminal Investigations Units (CID) were called to assist with the apprehension, and Ortega was successfully taken into custody. A second suspect, 36 year old Jimmy D. Guzman was also arrested and charged with burglary and parole violations. No further suspects remain at large in this case. Several items suspected to be stolen were recovered from the home including electronics, weapons (guns) and victims’ identifications. Many of these items were stolen from Goodyear as well as from burglaries committed in various cities.
