Update: Goodyear Attempted Child Abduction – Victim Recants Statement

GOODYEAR, Ariz. –On Friday, May 10, 2013, a 12 year old Westar Elementary School student reported that a man in a white van attempted to abduct her on the way to school. Today, that student recanted her story to police and admitted that she fabricated the entire story. Although the girl gave police a description of a person, and a white van was seen in the area, the incident never happened.

The Goodyear Police Department takes all crime reports very seriously. The first priority of the department is to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors, therefore, many resources were mobilized to investigate this case. Goodyear Police would like to remind the community that false reporting is a serious crime. This case will be turned over to the Juvenile County Attorney for review.
