Goodyear keeps up partnership in Tres Rios Festival
Take a walk with the wildlife and help keep it thriving in an environmentally sound habitat.
The family-oriented Tres Rios Festival that the City of Goodyear is a partner in, is set to mark a milestone this weekend.
The Tres Rios Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 at the juncture of the Gila, Salt and Agua Fria rivers at the Base and Meridian Wildlife Area with a nature-themed flare.
The popular event is free for the public and attracts about 5,000 people a year.
In addition to this year’s event featuring fishing clinics, bird watching, canoe trips, entertainment and hiking tours, the Tres Rios Festival will include live bluegrass and folk music, giveaways and 50 exhibitors. Other events include hay wagon rides, paddle boarding and wildlife displays.
Wildlife such as hawks, osprey, peregrine falcons, desert tortoises, beavers, bobcats and javelin live in the Tres Rios area and participants may spot wildlife during the event.
In an effort to help keep wildlife thriving in an environmentally sound habitat and keep the city green and clean, the City of Goodyear’s sanitation and water conservation staff will be passing our brochures that provide recycling and water conservation tips and be available at the event to answer questions.
Some of the other special events include bird watching and a canoe excursion on the small lake with Arizona Game and Fish boating instructors providing safety tips on canoeing.
Another highlight of the weekend will be a recycling fashion show at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Festival organizers are seeking participants from kindergarten to sixth grade to show off the “trashiest outfit” created from recyclable materials.
