Goodyear receives national award for fiscal responsibility
The City of Goodyear again has won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, highlighting the city’s long-standing methods of fiscal responsibility.
Goodyear was among 1,328 entities to receive the award for its budget prepared for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, marking the 12th straight time and 17th overall time the city has won the award. Goodyear met the guidelines for effective budget presentation that are designed to assess how well a governmental entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
Terri Canada, budget manager for the City of Goodyear, accepted the award on behalf of the city from the Government Finance Officers Association, a nonprofit organization serving more than 17,500 government professionals throughout North America.
“By providing the budget in this format, it gives all of us a better tool to make sure that taxpayer dollars are spent in a way that are in line with the goals of City Council,” said Goodyear City Manager Brian Dalke. “By following these guidelines, it holds us to a high standard of reporting and transparency in our budget documents.”
“It’s making sure that you are presenting the budget in a way that provides the budget information in an appropriate way for people to understand,” said Goodyear City Budget Director Larry Lange. “We pride ourselves in fiscal responsibility and smart spending.”
