HB 2657 – Transaction Privilege Tax Changes

This bill would significantly hurt cities and towns on several levels. First, it would change the collection of construction sales tax from point of destination (where things get built) to point of sale (where supplies are purchased). As a City with large tracts of undeveloped land, this bill would severely impact our ability to build infrastructure, which is needed to help attract businesses and create jobs. In FY13 alone it is estimated that the City of Goodyear would lose between $6 million and $7 million. The bill also takes away the option for cities to collect their own sales tax and conduct their own business audits (to make sure businesses are remitting taxes accurately)
