UPDATE: GOODYEAR POLICE ARREST 3 SUSPECTS IN
BURGLARY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE AT CHURCH
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Sometime overnight on Oct. 16-17, 2013, unknown persons entered Desert Springs Community Church located at 14440 W. Indian School Rd., Goodyear and did extensive damage by spray painting various profanities and hate crime symbols. Suspects also damaged walls and other property inside the building. Early estimates are approximately $20,000.00 in damage.
UPDATE: As a result of a separate 911 call that came in at 9:55 on the morning of Oct. 23, three male suspects were observed fleeing from an unoccupied home at 14165 W. Weldon Ave. in Goodyear. Detectives found property that had been stolen from Desert Springs Community Church last week as well as graffiti similar to that found in the church. Two men, 21 year old Stevon Gonzales, Jr. and 19 year old Cody James Heble were arrested and taken into custody as suspects in the original Desert Springs Community Church crime. An additional suspect, 18 year old Rodney Robinson was arrested for possession of stolen property. Detectives believe at least one additional suspect is outstanding in this case. The estimated loss, with a combination of damage and stolen property from the church has been upgraded to an estimated $40,000.00. Approximately $2,000.00 in stolen property (guitars, computer equipment, and hand-cart) has been recovered thus far. Charges include aggravated criminal damage.
