Goodyear Police Promotes Officer Rodriguez to Sergeant

(GOODYEAR, AZ) As a result of the Goodyear City Council approving six new Police Department positions or Fiscal Year 2006/07, a new patrol squad has been created to help increase police protection in this fast-growing city.  A six-year veteran of the Goodyear Police Department, Officer Santiago "Jimmy" Rodriguez, has been promoted to the newly-formed sergeant position to lead the new squad which will begin patrolling this month.

Rodriguez became a Goodyear Police Officer in May of 2000, and his most recent assignment was to the Traffic Division where he was a motor officer. Prior to his transfer to motors, Rodriguez was a Patrol Officer. This year Sergeant Rodriguez was awarded a Unit Citation along with the other members of the Traffic Division. He was also the recipient of the Chief's Distinguished Service Award for 2006 for an act of heroism -- administering CPR until the Fire Department arrived to a victim of a motorcycle/car collision who was lying in the middle of a busy county road – MC 85.  Rodriguez was also the Police Department’s Employee of the Year in 2002.

Prior to joining the Goodyear Police Department, Rodriguez worked as a detention officer with the Glendale Police Department.
