Distraught man has standoff with police

goodyear, Ariz. –  A 39 year old Sun City West firefighter held police at bay for 9 hours in the 14500 blk of W Windsor. At about 5:30 am Goodyear Police responded to the address after receiving a call from a family member advising that Medrano was threatening suicide. When officers arrived, they found a note on a vehicle in the driveway that indicated the author wanted to end their life.

After making brief contact with Medrano, officers surrounded the residence calling out Goodyear SAU team who were also supported by Glendale PD SWAT members. Throughout the nine hours it seemed Medrano would come out peacefully several times, and then hopes were dashed when he refused to surrender.

Eventually at about 2:30 pm, Medrano came out the front door of the house. Medrano was semi-compliant but was still armed with a semi-auto pistol that was in his waistband. Medrano was shot with a Taser and swiftly taken into custody.
