Goodyear Teen Police Academy application deadline
May 30

GOODYEAR, AZThe Goodyear Police Department is accepting applications for its summer Teen Police Academy Training.  Deadline for applications is May 30.

Teenagers who meet the program’s qualifications will get an insider’s look at the police academy. Training is provided by School Resource Officers with the Goodyear Police Department and includes working mock crime scenes and firearm training.

The two-week program begins July 7 and ends on July 18. Classes meet at Estrella Mountain Community College from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. most days, Monday through Friday. The course is free, and open to teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18. Most classes will be taught at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale.

Class size is limited to 30. Applicants are not required to be residents of Goodyear, although the course is designed for young people who live in the West Valley who might be interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The Goodyear Police Department began offering this Teen Police Academy in 2007, which was a big hit with the 22 high school students that graduated the program last year. Prior to that, a similar program was offered locally by the Goodyear and Avondale police departments working together.

To apply, contact Officer Chad Waltz, Goodyear Police Department by e-mail at or by phone at 623-932-1220.
