Neighbors Helping Neighbors - Make a Difference Day 2012

As we prepare to celebrate Goodyear's annual "Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods" festival, there is another upcoming City initiative that also promises to have a positive

impact on our community. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the City will host its fifth annual "Make a Difference Day," a designated national day of service aimed at promoting volunteerism in neighborhoods and communities across the country.

Under the direction of Goodyear Volunteer Coordinator, Judi Switanek, this effort has been tremendously successful. On Make a Difference Day 2012, we expect to complete 16 City and Community projects, with over 400 volunteers participating. This volunteer drive will be a total community effort, drawing volunteers from faith communities, schools and local businesses.

Our volunteers will take part in a variety of tasks including painting projects, well site maintenance, landscaping work and the "You Are Not Alone" program's door hanger distribution effort.

Volunteer efforts such as these are vital in strengthening our communities and building a brighter future for our city. In 2011 alone, volunteers contributed 23,818 hours of service, saving taxpayers more than $500,000. I would like to offer my most sincere gratitude to our volunteers for their commitment and dedication to "making a difference" here in Goodyear.
