Four Hundred Goodyear Volunteers Ready to Make A Difference on October 27
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – High school and college students, Eagle Scouts, local businesses and church members are among the hundreds who will volunteer their time on Saturday, Oct. 27 to help improve the community through a variety of service projects scheduled as part of the 2012 Make A Difference Day event.
Projects range from painting homes of deserving residents to landscaping clean-ups and other maintenance jobs. Sixteen projects are scheduled to occur on Oct. 27. Another project, installing new playground equipment at Parque de Paz, will occur at a later date once the equipment arrives.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community,” said Mayor Georgia Lord. “Their efforts make our neighborhoods and public facilities better and save taxpayers thousands of dollars,” she said.
The day’s events will begin with two kick-off rallies, one at Goodyear City Hall and the other at Fire Station #182 in Estrella Mountain Ranch. Both are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Volunteer groups will work on their projects from 8:30 a.m. until Noon.
Mayor Lord and Council Member Wally Campbell will cheer on volunteers at the City Hall event. Vice-Mayor Joanne Osborne and Council Member Joe Pizzillo will host the fire station event. The Mayor and Council plan to honor the volunteers for their efforts at the Council meeting planned for Monday, Nov. 5.
This year’s event marks the fifth year for the program in Goodyear, growing from 2 projects in 2008 to 16 projects next weekend.
