To Host Fundraising Event At Goodyear Ballpark On Sept 22
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The City of Goodyear announced today that the Goodyear Police Department and Special Olympics Arizona will host a fundraising event at Goodyear Ballpark from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sept. 22 that will feature Special Olympians from around the Valley competing in an All-Star Softball Tournament. The event is free and donations will be accepted at the gates to benefit Special Olympics Arizona.
Teams featuring Special Olympians will compete in a bracket-style tournament to play in the championship game at 6 p.m. Special Olympics Arizona's goal is to empower the more than 180,000 Arizonans with intellectual disabilities to be healthy, productive, and respected members of society through its year-round sports training, competitions and support programs.
“Not only do our dedicated police officers and other administrative staff within the Goodyear Police Department work hard to protect our community, we also believe it’s our duty to give back to the community as well,” Goodyear Police Chief Jerry Geier said. “We are honored to partner with Special Olympics Arizona while hosting a family-friendly event for our community to enjoy.”
United Blood Services will also host a blood drive at the event from 12-4 p.m. People attending the event can give blood and earn reward points as part of United Blood Service’s “Hero in Me” donor reward program. Points can be exchanged for T-shirts, movie tickets and other items.
The event will also include numerous family-friendly activities throughout the day, including a Goodyear Police Department K-9 demonstration, children’s activities and youth clinics instructed by the Grand Canyon University women’s softball team, a community expo with various local businesses and restaurants and a car and motorcycle exhibit.
A home run derby and fireworks, presented by Hilgers Pediatric Dentistry and Hilgers Orthodontics, will follow the 6 p.m. championship softball game.
For more information about the fundraising event, please contact Goodyear Police Officers Eric Webster at 623.606.4742 or Eric Whittington at 623.208.3650.
