Building Inspection Information Now Available

24/7 Thanks to New Automated Phone Process

(GOODYEAR, AZ) – Goodyear’s Building Safety Division has made it much easier for homeowners and contractors to work with the City’s building inspectors. The division’s new automated Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system lets customers call the inspection phone line – 623-932-3494 - any time, day or night, to schedule, cancel or get results of their building inspections automatically. The new system went into effect Jan. 1, 2006.

“In a City that is growing at the rate of 18 percent a year, it is critical that we make our inspection operation work as efficiently as possible,” said Steve Burger, Goodyear’s chief building official. “We selected a system that would be easy for both the public, and us, to use.”

It is a very simple process – just the pressing of a few buttons on the phone. When a permit is issued, the applicant is given a personal identification number that will allow access to the system. By calling the automated interactive voice response (IVR) inspection phone line – 623-932-3494- a customer can schedule an inspection up to three business days in advance or cancel an inspection that has already been scheduled. Each type of inspection has a specific code number. To schedule an inspection, the applicant enters the inspection code and the date. Once completed, the applicant will receive a confirmation number.

Customers can also call the automated system to receive the status of an inspection that was scheduled and with a press of the button can also request a fax of the inspection history of that particular property.

Once the building inspector conducts an inspection, he will telephonically call in and enter the permit number, the type of inspection, whether it passed or failed and why it failed. If necessary, the inspector can also leave a short voice message for the applicant with additional information.

“In the short time it has been in use, this system has already freed up our permit technicians so they can assist customers at the counter or on the phone without being constantly interrupted,” said Burger. “They do not need to spend as much time each day entering inspection requests and results. This is proving invaluable with the incredible amount of construction activity going on in Goodyear.”

The City of Goodyear encourages all inspection applicants to use the 623-932-3494 number for faster, more efficient service. If you have any questions about its usage, call Building Safety at 623-932-3004.
