Goodyear Encourages Neighborhood Leaders to Attend Day at Capitol



(GOODYEAR, AZ) - It's a special day at the Arizona Capitol just for neighborhoods - a day neighborhood leaders from Goodyear and other Valley cities can learn about the legislative process and talk about issues important to neighborhoods.


From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, citizens and neighborhood leaders are invited to the legislature to hear from lawmakers, learn about the 2006 neighborhood legislative agenda and find out how it will affect the future of neighborhoods, tour the House and Senate chambers and enjoy a free lunch at the Capitol Mall, 1700 W. Washington St. in Phoenix.  The event is free but registration is required by Thursday, March 23 by calling 623-882-7812 or e-mail  Parking at the State Capitol is free and carpooling can be arranged by calling 623-882-7812.


A free neighborhood lobbying workshop also will be offered to the first 100 people to register. Neighborhood leaders can learn how a bill becomes law, ways to effectively communicate with legislators and techniques used by professional lobbyists to influence legislation.  There will be an appearance by Governor Janet Napolitano.


Neighborhood involvement in the legislative process is important to the future of communities around the state.  The cities of Goodyear, Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Tucson host the event with support from the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.
