Crime Victims' Week Promotes Strength in Unity



(GOODYEAR, AZ) ÐNational Crime Victim's Week is Sunday, Apr. 23rd through Saturday, Apr. 29th. This year's theme is "Victims Rights: Strength in Unity." The "Strength In Unity" Fair 2006 takes place Saturday, Apr. 29, 2006 at Estrella Mountain Community College (SE corner of Dysart and Thomas).

The fair is presented by Goodyear, Avondale and Buckeye Police departments and the Maricopa County Adult & Juvenile Probation Victims Services Unit.


The fairÕs various workshops and self-defense classes are listed below as well as more than 35 exhibitors with valuable information for citizens on how to prevent becoming a victim. For more information, call Terri Woodmansee, Crisis Services Coordinator at 623-693-0095.


Self-defense classes on the college lawn:

9 to 10 a.m., 10 to 11a.m., 12 to 1p.m. and 1 to 2 p.m.


One-hour workshops:

1.         Elder Abuse: Area Agency on Aging, 9 to 10 a.m.

2.         3 Door Program: Never Again Foundation, 9 to 10 a.m.

3.         Identity Theft: AG's Office, 10 to 11 a.m.

4.         OOPs/IHs: Avondale Court, 10 to 11 a.m.

5.         Teens at Risk: City of Goodyear, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

6.         Victims Rights: AGÕs Office, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

7.         Domestic Violence: City of Avondale, 12 to 1 p.m.

8.         Restitution/Probation: Adult & Juvenile Probation, 12 to 1 p.m.

9.         Animal Abuse: Humane Society, 1 to 2 p.m.

10.       Stalking: time to be announced
