Low Water Pressure Difficulties

in Estrella Mountain Ranch Fixed

(GOODYEAR, AZ) The City of Goodyear Water Resources Department has rectified the sporadic low water pressure difficulties occurring in Zone 1 (generally south of Elliot Rd.) of Estrella Mountain Ranch by installing a new motor heater at Booster Station 13, located in the masterplanned community. Booster Station 13 has experienced a problem with its motor heater three times during a one and one-half month time period.  The motor heater protects the motor from permanent damage.  Since repairs to the motor heater have proved insufficient, a new motor heater was ordered and installed at Booster Station 13 on May 24th.  This should alleviate future low pressure problems in Zone 1 due to that particular mechanical failure.

Estrella Mountain Ranch is divided into two water pressure zones, Zone 1 and Zone 2 (generally north of Elliot Rd.).Because of the hilly topography in Zone 1, three booster pumps are required to maintain the pressure in that area.  Unfortunately, if even one of the booster pumps goes down during peak demand, pressure is negatively affected in that zone.  Booster Station 13 currently has five booster pumps, three of which serve Zone 1 and two that serve Zone 2.  There is also an interconnect between the zones to supplement additional flows during extreme demand times such as for fire flows.

Staff also adjusted the equalization valve between Zone 1 and Zone 2, which provides for equalized pressure in the event of pump failure.  As such, pressure will not drop as drastically should Booster Station 13 experience another mechanical failure of some kind.

City of Goodyear water customers south of I-10 are encouraged to call the City in case of a problem with water pressure in the future or any other water or sewer problem. Contact the Goodyear Water Resources Department at 623-932-3010, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm  After hours, please contact the Police Department at 623-932-1220 to have a technician dispatched.  LPSCO provides water and sewer service to Goodyear residents north of I-10.
