Goodyear Hopes To Add Neighborhoods

To This Year’s October G.A.I.N. Event

(GOODYEAR, AZ) This year’s Goodyear G.A.I.N. event will take place on Saturday, October 14th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  So far Goodyear has 12 neighborhoods considering hosting events and the City hopes even more will sign up before the first planning meeting on July 25th. Most of the participating neighborhoods represent entire masterplanned communities, but smaller, individual neighborhoods are welcome to host parties as well.

G.A.I.N. stands for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods and is a statewide event held in most Arizona cities and towns during the month of October. G.A.I.N. events are both fun-filled and educational events during which entire neighborhoods get out and meet one another.  While each neighborhood’s event differs, most feature games for the children, food, and educational information from the City.  Goodyear’s Community Services Department, which oversees G.A.I.N. Day, moved the event to later in the day this year because participating neighborhood leaders felt the later time would increase resident participation due to cooler temperatures and would help accommodate busy families with children.

If you just want to hold a GAIN event for your street or your cul-de-sac, Goodyear would be glad to help you organize your event.  Volunteer Stacy Dehnert is coordinating this year’s events with the help of volunteers Steffie Brouillette and Kim Tengler. Please call Stacy before July 25th at 623-882-7806 if you want more information on hosting a G.A.I.N. event.

The goal of G.A.I.N. is to strengthen communities by encouraging neighbors to meet each other and also to promote safer neighborhoods by increasing crime prevention and safety awareness.  Community Services, Police, Fire and Public Works Departments have joined forces to heighten awareness of G.A.I.N. and to encourage neighborhoods to organize an event.

The main sponsor for this year is BK Homes. APS, Southwest Ambulance, Crossings Church, and Osborne Jewelers are also sponsors.
