Goodyear’s Newest Fire Station Wins National

Fire Magazine Award for Architectural Design

(Goodyear, AZ) Goodyear’s newest fire station, Station #184 at 16161 West Yuma Rd., has been recognized as one of the most outstanding stations in the nation.  It won a silver award from Fire Chief® magazine for outstanding architecture and design within fire departments nationwide.  This Goodyear station won in the Satellite Station category for its excellent architecture by LEA Architects, LLC. of Phoenix, Ariz.

Station 184 also recently received an award for design excellence in the Arizona Masonry Guild's Fifteenth Annual Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards program.

Project Manager and Deputy Fire Chief Mike Ullman stated, "We had a great experience working with LEA Architects and feel they are very deserving of both prestigious awards.  They were a great partner throughout the design process."

Goodyear Fire Department members Craig Artrip, Bryan Duell, and Bill Stipp were on the project team.  Al Gonzales was Goodyear’s Engineering Project Manager.

A picture of Station 184 has been published in the November issue of Fire Chief, and selected winners have been posted in the Station Style Special Report Section on www.firechief.com.

"When we finished the design of Station 184, we knew it was a "winner" and had already decided to use it as the footprint for stations we build in the future," said Mark Gaillard, Goodyear Fire Chief.  "We are extremely honored that it is now a national award-winning facility."

"This year's entries raised the standard for fire and emergency facilities.  Over the six years of the Station Style Awards, our winning stations have captured the changing role of fire departments across the country," said Janet Wilmoth, editorial director of Fire Chief magazine.  "The increase in fire sprinklers in these buildings, multi-purpose training rooms available to the community, the addition of fitness areas and growing environmental awareness all reflect future trends.  These exciting facilities support the demand for quicker response times, the integration of diversity into stations and an added focus on firefighter safety."

The judges represented a cross-section of architects and metro, suburban career and volunteer firefighters.

Established in 1956, Fire Chief is the magazine for progressive leaders of emergency services.  Articles by fire officers and specialists from across the country and around the world cover a wide variety of topics that are important to fire and emergency medical service leaders.
