Cavanaugh Elected President of Arizona Chapter

Of Brownfield Association

(GOODYEAR, AZ)  More than 30 people from around the country attended a workshop of the National Brownfield Associations hosted by the City of Goodyear on Jan. 24th including representatives from the EPA Region 9 and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.  Mayor James Cavanaugh, who gave welcoming remarks, accepted the position of President of the Arizona Chapter of the National Brownfield Associations at the workshop held in Goodyear’s City Hall. Goodyear’s Water Resources Director Shawn Bradford gave an additional welcome to attendees who all work in brownfield-related areas.

National Brownfield Associations (NBA) is an international umbrella organization of national associations focused on the responsible redevelopment of brownfields. The U.S. EPA defines brownfields as “real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.”  Brownfield sites can be found in every state.

Common examples are abandoned gas stations and dry cleaners, railroad properties, factories and closed military bases.  NBA is a growing organization run by a volunteer leadership team of experienced brownfield practitioners and a professional, full-time, dedicated staff.
