For Immediate Release:

Goodyear Needs Citizen Input on

Online Transportation Survey

(GOODYEAR, AZ) The City of Goodyear urges its residents to participate in the online survey that Valley Metro is conducting as a part of its in-depth review of Dial-a-Ride (paratransit) services throughout the valley. The study will be completed in September 2007.

Through this study, Valley Metro will continue to improve and expand transportation options for seniors and persons with disabilities throughout the Valley.  Goodyear is asking the public and Dial-a-Ride passengers to provide their input through the online survey which will be available until March 1, 2007. To participate, click on the following link:

Or, go to the Valley Metro Web site at and go to the “Getting Started” section. From there, click on the Dial-a-Ride link.

In order to bring enhanced transportation services to Goodyear, it is important that Goodyear’s City Council and staff have knowledge of the needs that exist in the community for alternative modes of transportation.  The results of the study will help the individual communities, the Southwest Valley and other areas of the Phoenix Metro area plan for the future.

The study will accomplish the following:

o       Assess each of the Dial-a-Ride programs operated by member communities, the county, as well as other agencies and develop recommendations for improvements in operations and performance.

o       Evaluate how eligibility for Dial-a-Ride services is currently determined and develop recommendations for alternative eligibility determination procedures.

o       Consider the unmet transportation needs of seniors and persons with disabilities and consider future demand for Dial-a-Ride services.

o       Consider alternative services and programs for meeting the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities. These might include expanded taxi subsidy programs, community bus services, discounted or free fixed route fares, and expanded travel training and trip planning services.

o       Consider alternatives for developing a regional paratransit system that would improve travel between cities and make the policies and procedures more consistent throughout the area.

o       Consider alternative funding sources for regional transportation services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
