Goodyear to Close Skate Park for Repair

(GOODYEAR, AZ) The City of Goodyear Public Works Department will be closing the skate park for three days beginning Tuesday, Feb. 13 to repair damage to the park’s coping. The park will reopen at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 15.

New rules will also be in place when the skate park reopens.  As of February 15th, no pegs will be allowed on bikes using the park.  Currently, the rules allow for acrylic pegs or metal pegs wrapped in tape.  Many bikers have not been following the rules and City staff believes it is the metal pegs that have done the most damage to the three-week-old skate park. This new rule is the first modification to try to find ways to protect the park and keep its users safe.

“By changing the rules on metal pegs just as we have repaired the park to its original condition, we will be better able to determine if it is the metal pegs doing most of the damage,” said Parks Superintendent Brian Barnes.

The areas of the skate park with steel coping will receive a clear epoxy coating to fix the gouges on all the concrete behind the coping.   In areas with limestone coping, gouges in the limestone will be filled, the limestone smoothed and a white epoxy put on to finish it.

Signs have been posted at the park announcing the three-day closure.  For questions, please call Brian Barnes, 623-882-7501.
