“Drinking Water Week” Declared in Goodyear

(GOODYEAR, AZ)  James M. Cavanaugh, Mayor of Goodyear, is proclaiming May 6 – 12, 2007 as Drinking Water Week.

“By making this proclamation, I am calling upon all citizens to celebrate Drinking Water Week as a wonderful time for both our water professionals and the consumers we service to join together to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives,” said Cavanaugh.

“A safe, reliable water supply of tap water is critical to the success of any community,” states Water Resources Director Shawn Bradford.   “It creates jobs, attracts industry and investment, and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression.”

Goodyear has made water service a key City priority. Many projects in Goodyear’s Capital Improvement Plan and budget are devoted to developing water resources to ensure its customers (residents who reside south of I-10) have sufficient water, monitoring and testing its water supply to make sure it is safe and dependable, and building and maintaining the infrastructure needed to deliver water and carry away wastewater.

According to Bradford, Goodyear hopes the emphasis on Drinking Water Week will help encourage each citizen to get involved in local water issues and to practice water conservation.
