Police Chief Named Interim Deputy City Manager

(GOODYEAR, AZ) Interim City Manager Brian Dalke has named Chief Mark Brown to fill the Deputy City Manager vacancy that was created on June 18 when Council tapped Dalke to temporarily step into the top administrator position after 18-year City Manager Stephen Cleveland announced his retirement.  Both Dalke and Brown are expected to remain in their interim positions until a permanent City Manager is hired in four to five months.

Brown joined the Goodyear Police Department in 1990 after a stint on Avondale’s force.  He quickly rose in the ranks from office to commander and was appointed Police Chief in 2003.

“Brown has always been looked at as a strong administrator in this organization,” said Dalke.  “He will really be a great help to me as Interim Deputy City Manager.”

Goodyear Police Commander Ralph McLaughlin will fill in for Brown until his return. The commander has already taken over the reigns of the Police Department as Brown’s appointment is effective immediately.
