Goodyear Combines all G.A.I.N. Parties into One Big

Event This Year; Adds “Taste of Goodyear”

(GOODYEAR, AZ) Everyone’s partying in Goodyear’s Community Park at 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. between 5 and 8 p.m. this year on Oct. 20th for the 2007 Goodyear G.A.I.N. Event. It’s a time for fun, food, “A Taste of Goodyear,” exchanging information and a wonderful chance for Goodyear residents to get to know their neighbors – the main reason for the G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) event. The goal of G.A.I.N. is to strengthen communities by encouraging neighbors to meet each other and also to promote safer neighborhoods by increasing crime prevention and safety awareness.

This is Goodyear’s sixth year participating in G.A.I.N., but this year it’s going to be different. Instead of holding the event in Goodyear’s individual neighborhoods, everyone is going to have their neighborhood parties in the Goodyear Community Park at 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. at 5:30 p.m. Having different neighborhoods in various areas of the park allows each neighborhood to cut their costs by sharing such expenses as bouncy rides for the kids. It also enables the Mayor and Council to visit all the neighborhoods which was becoming harder and harder as the number of individual neighborhood parties expanded over the years.

By having all neighborhoods together in the park Goodyear was also able to add a new feature – “Taste of Goodyear.”  In addition to the free hot dogs, chips and sodas at the event, the following 10 restaurants will be offering free samples: Bill Johnson’s Restaurants, Inc., Buffalo Wild Wings, El Paso BBQ, Macayo’s, Mimi’s Café, Papa John’s Pizza, Salad Creations, TCBY, Val’s Brazilian Cuisine, and Wildflower Bakery. There will also be bouncy rides and arts and craft for the kids and Police and Fire equipment on display at the event.

Goodyear has 13 neighborhoods currently involved in this year’s G.A.I.N. event:  Canada Village, Canyon Trails, Cottonflower, Estrella, Estrella Vista, Historic Goodyear, North Subdivisions, Palm Valley I, II & III, Rancho Mirage, Sarival Village, Sunrise at Wigwam, and Wildflower.

Additional neighborhoods are more than welcome! For more information or to volunteer to join the planning committee and represent your Goodyear neighborhood or to sponsor the event, please contact Judi Switanek, Goodyear’s Volunteer Coordinator at 623-882-7807 or e-mail her at judi.switanek@goodyearaz.gov. The next planning committee meeting will be Tues., Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Goodyear’s City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Rd.
