G.A.I.N.

Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods

GOODYEAR, AZ – It’s time for the annual “Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods,” or G.A.I.N., event from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at Goodyear Community Park, 3151 N. Litchfield Road. There’s no better time or place to learn about new and already-established neighborhoods in the rapidly growing Southwest Valley.

More than a dozen Goodyear neighborhoods will gather in the park at one time for this event, making it more convenient than ever for to visit with different representatives, take photos and interview residents and guests.

“Taste of Goodyear” is a special new feature that has been added this year. Tasting samples will be offered from 10 local restaurants: Bill Johnson’s Restaurants, Inc., Buffalo Wild Wings, El Paso BBQ, Macayo’s, Mimi’s Café, Papa John’s Pizza, Salad Creations, TCBY, Val’s Brazilian Cuisine, and Wildflower Bakery.

At least 13 neighborhoods are involved in this year’s G.A.I.N. event, including Canada Village, Canyon Trails, Cottonflower, Estrella, Estrella Vista, Historic Goodyear, North Subdivisions, Palm Valley I, II & III, Rancho Mirage, Sarival Village, Sunrise at Wigwam and Wildflower.

Be sure to catch Master Magician Patrick Wallace’s show, and marvel as he makes Goodyear’s Mayor Jim Cavanaugh appear from thin air. Wallace’s show  is filled with family fun, magic and illusions, including cutting his assistant in half, Harry Houdini’s famous Metamorphosis and the crowd pleasing Konundrum Kube.

Students from Agua Fria and Desert Edge high schools are turning the venue’s event facades into original works of art painted on eight separate canvases.

Children will enjoy bouncy rides and arts and crafts. Fire and police equipment will be on display. There will also be free hot dogs, chips and sodas.

For information on volunteering or participating, contact Judi Switanek, Goodyear’s Volunteer Coordinator at 623-882-7807 or email her at judi.switanek@goodyearaz.gov.  Or visit Goodyear’s website at www.goodyearaz.gov.

Note: A separate press release will be issued when the times and details of Master magician Patrick Wallace’s appearance have been finalized.
