G.A.I.N.  2007

Finishing touches add magic shows, art contest,

K-9 unit, raffle prizes of airline tickets and PIR passes to the event

GOODYEAR, AZ –  Final preparations are being made for G.A.I.N. 2007. The Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods event promises to be a smash hit this year, with the addition of magic shows, art contests, K-9 unit demonstrations, ambulance and fire truck displays and exciting raffle prizes.

Be sure to catch one of Master Magician Patrick Wallace’s three shows, beginning shortly after 5 p.m. Every show will be filled with family fun, magic and legendary illusions, such as cutting the magician’s assistant in half, Harry Houdini’s famous Metamorphosis, and the crowd-pleasing Konundrum Kube.

Students from Agua Fria and Desert Edge high schools are turning several communities’ banners into original works of art painted on canvases.

The Goodyear K-9 unit will provide some “dog-gone” great entertainment, and ambulance and fire trucks will be on display.

Don’t miss a chance to win raffle prizes, including two round-trip Southwest Airlines tickets, dinners, tickets to Phoenix International Raceway, certificates, watches, gift baskets and emergency kits.

The City of Goodyear Police, Fire, Water and Community Services departments will be on hand to share tips on safety, crime prevention and recycling.

Stop by for FREE hot dogs and sodas, while supplies last. Children will enjoy bouncy rides, sidewalk chalk art and a drawing contest.

“Taste of Goodyear” is a special new feature being introduced this year. FREE tasting samples will be offered from 10 local restaurants. It’s a Grind has been added to the newly revised lineup of eateries, which also includes Bill Johnson’s Restaurants, Inc., El Paso BBQ, Macayo’s, Mimi’s Café, Papa John’s Pizza, Salad Creations, TCBY, Val’s Brazilian Cuisine, and Wildflower Bakery.

At least 13 neighborhoods are involved in this year’s G.A.I.N. event, including Canada Village, Canyon Trails, Cottonflower, Estrella, Estrella Vista, Historic Goodyear, North Subdivisions, Palm Valley I, II & III, Rancho Mirage, Sarival Village, Sunrise at Wigwam and Wildflower.

Citizen leaders have worked together with city staff to make G.A.I.N. 2007 an event to remember, raising nearly $20,000 in private donations as well as substantial in-kind contributions of bottled water, tables and equipment. Representatives from more than a dozen Goodyear neighborhoods will gather in the park to promote safer neighborhoods and strengthen communities by encouraging neighbors to meet one another.

Don’t miss G.A.I.N. 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at Goodyear Community Park, 3151 N. Litchfield Road, Goodyear. Admission is free.

G.A.I.N. 2007 presenting sponsors include BK Family Homes and Southwest Ambulance. Supporting sponsors are APS, Crossings Church and the Cleveland Indians. Other sponsors include, Franklin Pierce University, University of St. Francis, Taylor Woodrow and SunCor.
