Goodyear welcomes new IT director, Kathleen Fernandez
GOODYEAR, AZ – Goodyear has hired Kathleen Fernandez as the city’s new Director of Information Technology.
Fernandez joins Goodyear after 13 years with Scottsdale’s Information Systems department, where she was initially hired as a computer technician, and moved into the role of engineer architect within two years. She was later promoted to Enterprise Network Manager, managing a group of network engineers, designing and supporting Scottsdale’s server infrastructure, more than 260 servers, e-mail, web services, video streaming, virus protection, data backups, disaster recovery planning, and fiber-optic mass storage.
Fernandez acquired her technology background during her military career with the United States Navy, where she specialized in electronics. She spent two years in technical training and served at NAS Miramar, Calif., as a radar specialist. Later, she was assigned to an auxiliary repair ship, the USS Jason, as a radar\communications\cryptology support specialist. During this assignment, she was engaged in the Desert Storm Conflict and served in the Persian Gulf for two six-month rotations. Fernandez has received numerous medals and a Navy Unit Commendation Award.
In addition to hands-on technical experience, Fernandez holds a Masters degree, MSIT, Network Architecture and Design, and a Bachelor’s degree, BSIT, Networking and Telecommunications.
