City manager finalists to be interviewed Nov. 7

 

GOODYEAR, AZFour candidates for the position of Goodyear City Manager have been selected as finalists, following a nationwide search conducted by The Mercer Group which closed on Oct. 12. In all, there were 81 applicants for the position: 15 of the applicants are from Arizona and 66 are from out-of-state. A select group of those applicants were forwarded to the city by the search firm. That list was then reviewed by a city council working group to determine a finalist list for interviews. On Nov. 7, the city council will meet in executive session to interview the following applicants:

 

Kevin Evans

 

Kevin Evans, currently the city manager for the city of Huntsville, Texas (pop. 40,000) since January 2004, has worked in management for local governments for more than 23 years. He has served as city manager in the Texas communities of Shamrock, Electra, Seymour and Athens, as well as Ardmore, Oklahoma. In Grand Prairie, Texas he served as the deputy city manager.  Evans received his designation as a Certified Economic Developer from the International Economic Development Council in 1994. He graduated cum laude from West Texas State University (now Texas A&M) with a Bachelors of Science in Public Administration. He has served on the board of directors for the Texas City Manager’s Association, the City Managers Association of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Municipal League.

 

Gary Luebbers

 

Gary Luebbers, currently the city manager for the city of West Jordan, Utah (pop. 100,000) since December 2000, has worked in management for local governments for 20 years in both California and Utah. He has also served as both the city manager and assistant city manager–General Services Division, for the city of Redlands, California. He is a retired officer from the United States Air Force. Luebbers graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Culver-Stockton College in Missouri and received his M.P.A. from the University of Southern California. He has served as chairman for the Board of Trustees Valley Emergency Communication Center, as executive board members for the Utah Risk Management Mutual Association and the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce. He is a current member of the International City Manager’s Association.

 

Margie C. Rose

 

Margie C. Rose, currently the assistant city manager for the city of Corpus Christi, Texas (pop. 280,000), has worked in management for local government for more than 20 years. She has served as the purchasing director, director of administrative services, director of department of public services, assistant city manager and city manager for the city of Inkster, Michigan. She has also served as deputy director of parks for the county of Wayne, Michigan. Rose received her B.B.A. (Accounting) degree and her M.P.A. from Eastern Michigan University. She also taught management classes at the University of Phoenix, Michigan Campus as a faculty member. Rose is a credentialed member of the International City Manager’s Association.

 

Patrick Salerno

 

Patrick Salerno, currently the city manager for the city of Sunrise, Florida (pop. 90,000) since 1990, has worked in management for local governments for more than 30 years. He has served as the county manager for Cobb County in Marietta, Georgia and Chatham County, Savannah, Georgia, the assistant county manager for Volusia County in Daytona Beach, Florida and held progressively more responsible management positions with the city of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Salerno received his B.G.S. degree (majoring in Politics and Public Affairs) from the University of Miami and his M.P.A. from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association and the Florida City and County Management Association.

 

Goodyear’s mayor and city council members are committed to selecting the most qualified candidate as soon as possible. Their goal is to have the new city manager on board by Jan. 1, if not sooner.
