SW Valley residents invited to join Goodyear’s Community Emergency Response Team
GOODYEAR, AZ – Want to Help in an Emergency? Join CERT—Community Emergency Response Team.
Goodyear is offering the first of several 2008 CERT training classes for local residents. The 10-week program begins Feb. 21.
CERT participants will learn how to safely help neighbors during emergencies and disasters until police, fire, public works or other emergency responders arrive at the scene. CERT training offers a positive, realistic approach for dealing with critical situations. CERT graduates come away from the program with the skills necessary to put out small fires and manage residential utilities, safely search for and rescue victims, and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to respond effectively during crisis. They will also be trained in life saving skills with emphasis on decision making, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
The CERT program is free. Registration is open to residents of Goodyear, Avondale, Litchfield Park and other Southwest Valley communities.
Classes meet from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday, Feb. 21 through April 17, plus one optional meeting for introduction to Goodyear’s City Councilmembers on Monday, April 21. Training is held at the City of Goodyear Fire Department administrative offices, 175 N. 145th Ave., Venida Building E, Goodyear.
