Reds tour Goodyear
GOODYEAR, AZ – Representatives of the Cincinnati Reds toured the city of Goodyear, Ariz. Wednesday, and taking a closer look at the possibility of locating their Spring Training camp in the growing Southwest Valley.
In addition to touring Goodyear, Reds’ CEO Bob Castellini, Chief Operating Officer John Allen and three other team representatives received a briefing from Mayor Jim Cavanaugh and Interim City Manager Brian Dalke.
“The Reds seemed very impressed with the growth and pro-active attitude of the city,” said Goodyear Mayor Jim Cavanaugh. “They saw that the city is committed to working well with the private sector and getting things done.”
Goodyear’s $75 million ballpark and sports complex, scheduled to open later this year, will serve as the Spring Training facility for the Cleveland Indians beginning in 2009. Although the Indians are currently the only team to locate their Spring Training operations here, Goodyear has set aside enough property to accommodate a second ball club if an opportunity were to arise in the future.
