I-10 construction update
Bullard Avenue opened to traffic
GOODYEAR, AZ – A new interchange on Interstate 10 at Bullard Avenue in Goodyear opened to traffic on Monday, April 14, providing added convenience to drivers in that area, while completing a major milestone in the project to improve I-10.
The project included the construction of east and westbound entrance and exit ramps at Bullard Avenue, as well as widening Bullard Avenue under I-10. The project began in July 2007 and finished on schedule.
The Bullard Avenue traffic interchange is the first in a series of projects to improve I-10 as part of the 2004 voter-approved Regional Transportation Plan. The interchange, located between Litchfield Road and Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway, gives drivers in the Southwest Valley another option for access to and from I-10.
As part of the Interstate 10 improvement projects, restrictions are scheduled on I-10.
Drivers should be aware of a full closure at Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway as bridge construction continues. Construction began on Tuesday, April 15 on Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway at the I-10 interchange. Work will occur only on weekdays from Monday at 1 a.m. and will re-open for the weekends on Friday at 4 p.m. and will last for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. During this closure, drivers are encouraged to use adjacent I-10 interchanges for freeway access. Northbound and southbound access on Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway crossing underneath I-10 will be closed but interchange ramps will remain open as part of the Monday through Friday closures.
In the coming weeks, drivers should be aware of a partial closure beginning April 30 at the Litchfield Road I-10 interchange as westbound I-10 bridge construction begins. I-10 will remain open in both directions during this time.
The I-10 expansion project has been developed to provide additional lanes between Verrado Way and Loop 101. The freeway expansion includes adding new outside lanes and widening in to the median to improve east/west traffic flow for the West Valley.
This project is one of the first elements of the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County and is funded through a voter-approved sales tax to improve and construct new roads throughout the Valley during the next 20 years. More information on the Regional Transportation Plan is available at www.azdot.gov/ValleyFreeways.
Here’s an overview of scheduled restrictions on Interstate 10:
Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway closed for bridge construction
Tuesday, April 15 - Friday, April 18 1 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Construction began on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 a.m. on Estrella/PebbleCreek Parkway at the I-10 interchange and will continue through Friday, April 18 until 4 p.m. Construction will resume Monday through Friday during the same times for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Motorists are encouraged to use adjacent I-10 interchanges during this time.
Interstate 10 from Bullard Avenue to Litchfield Road
Saturday, April 19 4 a.m. - 7 a.m.
I-10 eastbound will be reduced to one lane due to right lane restrictions between Bullard Avenue and Litchfield Road during early morning hours on Saturday for guard rail work.
With median barriers present at Dysart, lanes shifted to the auxiliary lanes may cause slowing and delays. Drivers should anticipate minor delays and allow extra time, or adjust travel route to avoid closures and restrictions. In the work zone, all motorists are advised to slow down and watch for changes in traffic control devices.
While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned freeway restrictions, during any complex construction project there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Please visit our Web site for the most current information about planned I-10 restrictions.
