Team up to clean up

Volunteers from Goodyear, Franklin Pierce University and Canada Village team up and clean up the neighborhood

GOODYEAR, AZ – Volunteers from the New Hampshire campus of Franklin Pierce University will brave Arizona’s triple-digit temperatures this weekend as they team up with Goodyear residents and staffers for a neighborhood clean-up day at Canada Village.

From 8 to 11 a.m., Sunday, May 18, five Franklin Pierce students and two faculty members will join forces with Goodyear city staffers and local volunteers, trimming weeds and tidying up the neighborhood at 181st Avenue and McDowell Road. Their efforts will be rewarded with a Potluck luncheon provided by members of the Canada Village Neighborhood Alliance from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The Franklin Pierce University volunteers arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Saturday evening. During the following week, the volunteers will also work with a local food bank before taking in Arizona’s attractions, including a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Franklin Pierce University will open its Arizona campus at Goodyear’s new City Center in 2010. In the meantime, the university’s classes in accounting, nursing and other subjects are offered at alternative sites, including Goodyear City Hall.
