GOODYEAR, AZ – Amazon.com announced today that it will open a new fulfillment center in the City of Goodyear, Ariz. The distribution center will create more than 600 full-time jobs when it opens this fall, and another 700 temporary positions during the 2008 holiday season.

Amazon is one of three large-scale employers to be opening this year in Goodyear. Macy’s Fulfillment Center opened in May with 500 new jobs. Cancer Treatment Centers of America is under construction and will open later this year, bringing another 500 high-paying jobs.
Amazon’s 500,000-square-foot facility is located at 1690 W. Commerce Drive, Goodyear, Ariz. Amazon opened a similar facility in Phoenix in 2007.
“Corporate America is beginning to discover the City of Goodyear,” said Mayor James Cavanaugh. “I know this organization appreciates the fact that our community is filled with people who are enthusiastic about joining Amazon’s outstanding management and customer service teams. We’re fortunate to be a city where so many new jobs are being created, and we are thrilled to welcome Amazon to Goodyear.”
Goodyear, which recently won the National Civic League’s All-America City Award, will also be opening the Goodyear Ballpark and Recreational Sports Complex this summer. Two Ohio ball clubs, the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds, will make Goodyear their spring training homes. Estrella Falls, a regional shopping mall, is also slated to open in 2010.
Goodyear’s strategic location helps attract businesses that are looking to open, expand or relocate. “Goodyear is on Interstate 10, between Loop 101 and the future Loop 303,” said City Manager John Fischbach. “More than 75 percent of our residents currently commute to work outside the city. With the way gas prices are escalating and the state of the current economy, we’re thrilled to be welcoming Amazon.”
