Citizen Academy for residents of Goodyear, Litchfield Park

 

GOODYEAR, Ariz. Enroll in the Citizen Academy, and learn how your city operates, and how you can help contribute to its success.

 

The new Citizen Academy is for residents of Goodyear and Litchfield Park. The 10-week program explores the inner workings of city government. These interactive and informative workshops will equip you with valuable knowledge and may inspire you to become a more active member of your community.

 

Citizen Academy Highlights

 

  • Meet the mayor and councilmembers; learn about the mayor-city manager form of government and how cities conduct business

 

  • How revenue is generated and money is spent

 

  • Serving on citizen committees and commissions

 

  • How neighborhoods, HOAs and government can work together

 

  • Water, roads, traffic, trash and recycling

 

  • Police Department presents a K-9 demonstration and tour of the mobile command center

 

  • Guided tour of parks, facilities and future development

 

  • Dinner with the firefighters and tour of the fire station and equipment

 

  • Tax dollars – the tax base, federal funds, economic development and regional partners

 

The Citizen Academy meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, from Sept. 11 through Nov. 13. The $40 per person fee includes a light dinner and course materials.
