Goodyear mayor gives keynote address at cancer hospitals annual meeting
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – (Oct. 31, 2008) – Mayor Cavanaugh was the featured speaker Thursday evening at the annual dinner for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Boards of Directors, Sanfilippo Estate and Eden Palais Carousel in Barrington Hills, Ill.
CTCA will open its newest facility, Western Regional Medical Center, in Goodyear, Arizona in early 2009, bringing 420 new jobs. The 210,000-square-foot hospital will be located just south of Interstate 10, and will offer state-of-the-art medical, surgical and radiation oncology. With 25 in-patient rooms, ICU rooms, surgical suites and therapy departments, CTCA will be able to treat 150 patients per day.
"The City of Goodyear is eager to welcome Cancer Treatment Centers of America," Cavanaugh said. "We know CTCA will find everything it needs here for success -- a vibrant region, a well-prepared work force, and a complimentary business community."
Addressing an audience of nearly 200, Cavanaugh focused on economic highlights in Goodyear, including a new ballpark and Cactus League spring training facility, the recent opening of Amazon and Macy's distribution centers, new retail and hospitality offerings, and a regional mall scheduled to open in 2010.
"We are truly honored to have such a visionary as Mayor Cavanaugh, come and speak at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America All Boards dinner,” said David Veillette, President and CEO of CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center. “With great strides in Goodyear such as the Training Center for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians, the addition of two major universities and being awarded the prestigious, All American City Award and Most Livable City awards, Mayor Cavanaugh demonstrates the positive ‘can do spirit’ and leadership that every company searches for when looking for a community to build a business.
The CTCA Boards of Directors are comprised of members representing Cancer Treatment Centers of America and each hospital Board in the group. Each year, the group of Boards get together to review progress and cancer research across the globe and discuss the growth of Cancer Treatment Centers’ facilities. This year, the focus is on the newest CTCA hospital in the group: Western Regional Medical Center in Goodyear, Arizona.
