Dusty Baker to sign autographs at groundbreaking
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Nov. 12, 2008) – Cincinnati Reds’ manager and former Major League Baseball outfielder Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker, Jr. will be signing autographs at the groundbreaking for the Reds’ new spring training facility in Goodyear, 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17.
The public is invited to join Baker and other VIPs and officials from the Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority and the city of Goodyear as they break ground on the team’s new spring training development complex.
The Reds are the second of two Ohio teams to relocate their spring training facilities to the Goodyear Ballpark and Sports Complex, which will begin hosting Cactus League games in February.
The Reds spring training complex will cost nearly $32 million and be similar in design and style to the Indians’ facility. It will be located south of the Indians’ complex on Wood Boulevard, just east of Estrella Parkway. The facilities will be completed next year, and the team will become part of the Cactus League in 2010.
During the groundbreaking, the 45-piece Desert Edge High School Marching Band will play “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and other baseball-themed favorites as city officials and representatives from the Reds turn dirt. Renderings of the exterior design of the ballpark and of the Reds' team clubhouse will be unveiled in front of a mock-up ballfield and baseball diamond.
From Interstate 10, take Estrella Parkway exit and go south. Go east on Wood Boulevard, just south of Lower Buckeye Road.
