Blue Sky Award presented to Goodyear and West Valley Hospital
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Nov. 14, 2008) – The Blue Sky Award was presented to the City of Goodyear and West Valley Hospital by Valley Metro as part of its 2008 Clean Air Campaign.
Goodyear and West Valley Hospital became partners in developing a solution for West Valley commuters using the new Valley Metro Express Route 562 to downtown Phoenix, filling a much-needed void for southwest valley residents.
The hospital provided land and the city built a park-and-ride lot at Cornerstone Boulevard and McDowell Road. Southwest valley commuters park for free, save money on gas and contribute to better air quality.
The new bus route kicked off on July 28 with three full buses and many cars in the park-and-ride lot. Ridership has been strong, and the route has become a welcome option for commuters from the southwest valley.
Goodyear and West Valley Hospital accepted the award during Valley Metro’s 2008 Clean Air Campaign Awards and Luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore on Oct. 28.
