Robert Carrier earns Certified Public Purchasing Officer credential

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (Dec. 10, 2008) – Robert Carrier, procurement manager for the city of Goodyear, has been recognized by the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council for receiving the Certified Public Purchasing Officer credential. In 2006, Carrier earned his Certified Public Professional Buyer.

To become certified, candidates must meet UPPCC requirements that include formal education, coursework and training, public purchasing and management experience, and pass a written exam. Only 1,656 purchasing professionals have received CPPO certification recognition, to date.

“Public procurement professionals are charged with ensuring that public dollars are spent in a manner consistent with openness, fairness, and transparency.  One way that the public can trust that their dollars are being spent in an appropriate manner is by being sure that the procurement professional has achieved the premier professional certification of CPPO or CPPB.  These professional credentials are the only two that have been developed solely by and for the government procurement professional.  By achieving one of these certifications, the procurement official has assured both their agency and the public that they have the requisite knowledge and experience to effect the best procurement decisions,” says Kirk Buffington, CPPO, and President of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing.

The UPPCC was jointly established in 1978 by NIGP and the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) to independently administer certification and promote procurement professionalism in the public sector.
