City of Goodyear, Arizona
Immediate Release: April 23, 2009
Water, sewer rate changes proposed
Public invited to offer input,
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (April 23, 2009) – Goodyear residents who live south of Interstate 10
could soon see changes to their water and sewer rates.
The city is hosting two public meetings next month to
discuss the proposed new water and sewer rates. Meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
on Tuesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 7 in Room 117 of Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Road.
The proposed new water and sewer rates were developed by
city staff and a consultant, with an emphasis on suggestions submitted by the
citizen committee. After in-depth study, the committee recommended that a rate
structure be developed that encourages conservation and provides revenue
stability by recovering the city’s operating costs for water and sewer service.
The following committee suggestions were used by city
staff and a consultant to develop the proposed rate structure:
reduction and water conservation are the top priority
pay for growth
should consider revenue stability and cost to provide service
impacts and acceptance should be considered
should consider equalized utility payments in the future
If approved, the new rate structure will be adopted in
June 2009, but not go into effect until Jan. 4, 2010. Only Goodyear water and
sewer customers, those who live south of I-10, will be affected by the rate
change. Goodyear residents who live north of I-10 receive water and sewer
service from Litchfield Park Service Company (LPSCO).
