Goodyear Emergency Management Coordinator earns highest honor

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (April 30, 2009)  Othell Newbill, Emergency Management Coordinator for the city of Goodyear, has earned his Certified Emergency Manager credential, awarded by the International Association of Emergency Managers. His achievement will be recognized on November 19 at the IAEM 56th Annual Conference & Exhibit in Overland Park, Kansas.

The CEM designation is the highest honor of professional achievement available from the International Association of Emergency Managers. More than 1,200 individuals have earned the Certified Emergency Manager designation since 1993.

Newbill is one of 32 applicants approved for the CEM designation by a commission of 19 respected IAEM professionals who met in early June. Applicants were required to complete an extensive credentials package, a management essay and a written examination. Credential requirements included experience, references, education, training and contributions to the profession. A management essay detailing a response to a scenario that might be faced while fulfilling emergency management responsibilities was also required.

"Mr. Newbill's dedication and professionalism is of tremendous value to the City of Goodyear," said Goodyear Deputy Fire Chief Mike Ullman. "We're proud of his commitment and his outstanding leadership."

The IAEM has more than 3,200 emergency managers representing local, state and federal government, private industry, and military emergency managers.
