W. Valley artist is guest of honor at

Art in Civic Spaces reception

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (May 1, 2009) ? Buckeye artist Catherine Ruane will be the guest of honor at Goodyear?s Art in Civic Spaces reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 8 at Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Rd.

During the reception, guests will have an opportunity to meet and mingle with the Ruane. Her detailed charcoal drawings of native trees are now on exhibit on the second floor of City Hall.

Ruane says trees are a recurring theme in her work, and typically feature enlarged views of branches, roots, leaves and sweeping vistas. She studies the tree's anatomy, makes detailed renderings, and notes the weight of the fronds, the girth of the wiry trunk and the grace of the leaves. She studied art in Florence, Italy and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Otis Institute of Art in Los Angeles. She exhibits widely throughout the Valley.

Hand-crafted masks and other art works created by student artists from Estrella Foothills High School are also featured in City Hall. Framing was donated by Fast Frames.

Artists in Goodyear and other West Valley areas are invited to submit examples of their paintings, drawing and sculpture for display at various locations throughout the city as part of the Art in Civic Spaces program. Please submit your resume and up to 10 images of your work to dianne.cripe@goodyearaz.gov or send to: Art in Civic Spaces program, 190 N. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, AZ 85338.
