W. Valley artist is guest
of honor at
Art in Civic Spaces
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (May 1, 2009) ? Buckeye artist Catherine
Ruane will be the guest of honor at Goodyear?s Art in Civic Spaces reception
from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 8 at Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Rd.
During the reception,
guests will have an opportunity to meet and mingle with the Ruane. Her detailed
charcoal drawings of native trees are now on exhibit on the second floor of
Ruane says trees are a
recurring theme in her work, and typically feature enlarged views of branches,
roots, leaves and sweeping vistas. She studies the tree's anatomy, makes
detailed renderings, and notes the weight of the fronds, the girth of the wiry
trunk and the grace of the leaves. She studied art in Florence, Italy and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Otis Institute of Art in Los Angeles. She
exhibits widely throughout the Valley.
Hand-crafted masks and
other art works created by student artists from Estrella Foothills High School are also featured in City Hall. Framing was donated by Fast Frames.
in Goodyear and other West Valley areas are invited to submit examples of their
paintings, drawing and sculpture for display at various locations throughout
the city as part of the Art in Civic Spaces program. Please submit your resume
