Goodyear names interim Deputy City Manager and Director of Public Works

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (June 19, 2009) Two key city leaders are leaving Goodyear: Deputy City Manager Jim Nichols and Shawn Bradford, Director of Public Works and Water Resources.

Deputy City Manager Jim Nichols is leaving Goodyear to become the new Deputy City Manager for the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning July 6. His last day with the city of Goodyear is June 26. Nichols has been with Goodyear for nearly four years. In addition to his duties as deputy city manager, Nichols has also served as head of engineering since April.

Mark Gaillard, Goodyear Fire Chief, will become Interim Deputy City Manager and Interim Director of Engineering Services, effective June 29. Goodyear will not be recruiting for a new Deputy City Manager at this time, due to current budget constraints. Gaillard will serve in an interim capacity for an indefinite period of time.

Charles McDowell, Deputy Director of Public Works and Water Resources, will become interim director of that department. Shawn Bradford's resignation as director of public works was announced on June 16. Goodyear will be recruiting nationally for a permanent director. The recruitment process is expected to take about six months.

Paul Luizzi, who is currently the Deputy Fire Chief Assigned to Operations, will step up as Interim Fire Chief.

Battalion Chief Russ Braden will serve as Interim Deputy Fire Chief Assigned to Operations.
