Public Art concept for Goodyear fire station to be presented

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (June 22, 2009) The concept for the public art project proposed for a Goodyear fire station will be unveiled Thursday, June 25.

Nationally renowned artist Ken Williams will present his artistic concept for the project planned for the exterior of Goodyear Fire Station 185 near PebbleCreek during a meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the PebbleCreek Tuscany Clubhouse, 16222 W. Clubhouse Drive, just west of PebbleCreek Parkway.

As in the previous May 13 meeting held at Goodyear City Hall, Williams will invite comments from the public and is interested in feedback from local residents.

The meeting is open to the general public and participation is encouraged.

Williams was selected as the artist for the project by a panel of residents. The city's art ordinance allows for funding of public art costing up to 1 percent of the city's capital improvement project budget each year.

Fire Station 185 was designed and built before the public art project was planned or authorized.

Williams works primarily in sculpted brick, and has received many awards for his artwork. He has completed more than 70 public and private art commissions nationally.
